This spring I find myself with time to reflect and to sharpen my teaching skills. More specifically, I have time to renew myself and my capacity for serving as an effective teacher.

While I appreciate the need to update my expertise on the subjects I teach (Introduction to Business and Business Ethics), my renewal focus will be to reflect on and create new strategy for utilizing the "Socratic Questioning" approach to foster active learning among my students.

While Socratic questioning emerged over 2,400 years ago, I continue to believe it to be an effective teaching "style" and method. I also believe it can lead to appreciation for the value of continuous and life-long learning.

Of course it would be unrealistic to ignore the presence of AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology as it might relate to learning and teaching. However, I believe that Socratic Questioning can be useful for the learner to explore complex ideas, uncover the assumptions that may exist with AI data, and practice critical thinking for themselves.

So, for the time-being, I will be thinking on just how I will utilize Socratic Questioning and integrating this approach into the classes I plan on teaching this coming fall semester.
