Organizational "Drift"

Organizations have a tendency to "drift" away from their core values. This drift is often gradual and unconscious as the organizations strives to adapt to the ever-changing, short-term demands.


The early signs of drift is reflected in the compromises of behavior and decision-making along with feedback from key stakeholders.


Other signs of drift arise as pressure increases for achievement of short-term goals without connection to long-term core values.


Complacency grows as past success begins to veil self-awareness for changing market conditions.


Common examples include not acknowleding new technologies, shifting customer expectations, lower leadership retention, and emerging competitive threats.


There is hope! There are steps we can take to re-set focus on core values while adapting to change.
