Coming to our Senses

The first chapter of "Death on a Friday Afternoon" focuses on the "First Word from the cross" - Father forgive them for they know not what they do."
We were there, there at the cross and so, we are a part of the 'they'. But surely I was aware of what was going on when Jesus was put to the cross. Surely I was condoning this tragedy (by not doing anything).
As Neuhaus writes, "I ways I do not understand, I know that I too, did the deed, wielded the whip, drove the nails, thrust the spear." I was there when they crucified my Lord!
I am uncapable of "setting things right". I am sorry but, being sorry won't set things right for my sins. Jesus is the path to salvation, the way for setting things right. However, forgiveness comes with cost. I am called to live as Jesus lived, to love God and my neighbors, and to rely upon the grace of God.
Lord, please forgive me of my sins. Have mercy on me because I am a sinner. I need you as I strive to be more Christ-like and to experience the atonement (at one ment) as I "come to my senses" and return home.
